Useful Resources for Language Learners
Here is a list of the most effective language resources I've found over the course of my teachings and own studies. All of them are free to try and most are free to use, so check them out and see if any of them work for you! Click on each picture to go directly to the site, or check out the link at the end of each description to see my guide and explanation of how to use each resource.
Italki - Individual Skype Lessons
Need to practice speaking? Italki.com is one of the most affordable and convenient methods of finding native speaker teachers and language partners for improving your spoken language skills. Lessons are one-on-one, taught over Skype, and force the student to speak quite a bit (depending on the teacher). Click here for my guide.
Memrise - gamify your vocabulary studies
If you are having a difficult time memorizing new words or phrases, you can quickly improve your vocabulary by using this awesome program. Memrise already includes several lists of words to study, but you can create your own in order to study specific things. Using this program for even five minutes a day can greatly improve your vocabulary. It's free to use, and also has an iphone and android app. Click here for my guide.
Lang-8 - Improve your writing ability
Lang-8 has a very simple idea - write small bits of text in a foreign language, and let other native speakers of that language correct your work. In return, help people learning your language by correcting their own submissions. Completely free, simple and direct - this is one of the best ways to improve your writing in a foreign language. Check out my guide here.
Soundcloud - fix your accent
Originally designed for people to submit music samples they created, Soundcloud is an awesome program to assist you in improving your speech. By recording and uploading small samples of your speech in a foreign language, you can have a teacher (or any native speaker) review and critique your speech, giving feedback and highlighting exactly where you make mistakes (and how to correct these mistakes). The program is free, but requires a teacher/helper to review your uploads and give you feedback. Take a look at my guide here.
