Sometimes in English we want to explain a situation that interrupts a process which we were already doing - in these situations, we use a combination of the past continuous and the past simple tenses. In this lesson, we take a look at the forms of each tense, the differences in their use, and how to put them together to explain interrupted situations. Then we do a few activities to practice constructing sentences using these two tenses together.
